A reddish benign skin lesion caused by sun damage to superficial skin layers. Often, multiple actinic keratoses are observed on sun exposed areas, e.g. the face and back of the hands. AK is considered potentially pre-cancerous because, if left untreated, it may develop into a squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).
